Getting started
Start from the upload workspace. You can try Briefd in guest mode, add a PDF, and sign in later if you want your saved work to sync across devices.
Upload from the main workspace using a PDF file.
Run your first analysis before creating an account.
Keep saved briefs on the current device in guest mode.
Sign in later when you want briefs and collections to follow you.
Start in the upload workspace
The guide opens with the same empty state pattern you see before your first analysis.
Upload workspace
Start with one PDF
Drop a PDF to begin
Upload a contract, report, or deck and Briefd will prepare a structured brief.
Upload and analysis
Briefd reads while you wait
The upload state stays simple, so it is easy to tell when a file is uploading or when a brief is being prepared.

Financials
After you choose a PDF, Briefd extracts the text and builds a structured brief. The progress state is intentionally compact and stays focused on what is happening right now.
Choose one PDF from the upload zone or file picker.
Watch the file card and progress state while analysis runs.
Open finished analyses again later from the dashboard.
Keep work local until you decide to sign in and sync.
Reading your brief
Once analysis finishes, the result page becomes your main workspace. The side panel keeps the document snapshot and risk score close by while the main area switches between brief tabs.
Start with the summary for the main takeaway and next actions.
Open key clauses when you need a closer read on important terms.
Review risk flags first when a document needs quick triage.
Check financial highlights when the PDF includes structured figures.
The result view
Summary, key clauses, risk flags, and financial highlights stay in one reading surface.

How risk is surfaced
The score and flagged items help you prioritize what to review first.
Score
Board approval timing
The approval window is short and should be confirmed before signing.
Liquidation preference
This clause affects payout order and needs a closer read.
Reporting obligations
The reporting schedule is clear and looks manageable as written.
The risk score is a triage signal, not a final decision. Use it to find the parts of the brief that deserve a closer read before you act.
Lower scores usually mean the document looks cleaner overall.
Mid-range scores suggest a few terms need more attention.
Higher scores are a cue to inspect the flagged clauses first.
Use the score together with the brief tabs, not on its own.
Compare documents
Compare mode is a separate workspace for version checks, vendor reviews, and side by side analysis. It keeps comparison detail out of the standard report tabs so the two workflows stay clean.
Start compare from a saved brief or from the compare page.
Pick another saved brief as the second side of the review.
Focus on score changes, clause differences, and missing details.
Exit compare at any time and return to the regular brief view.
Compare mode
Compare two saved briefs side by side, then leave compare mode when you are done.

Saved earlier
The dashboard is your brief library. Use it to find earlier work, reopen a result, or sort saved analyses when your list starts to grow.
Search saved briefs by filename from one place.
Filter by document type when the library gets larger.
Sort by latest activity or higher risk first.
Open a saved brief or send it into compare mode from the same area.
Collections
Collections help when several briefs belong to the same deal, client, or research track. They keep related work together while leaving each saved analysis accessible on its own.
Create a collection with a name and optional description.
Attach saved analyses once you have work worth grouping.
Open one collection to review related briefs together.
Remove a brief from a collection without deleting the saved analysis.
Organize related work
Collections act like folders for saved analyses without removing them from the wider library.
